"we don't have 'week days', only 'strong days'" - (a wednesday in chinatown/downtown, sf)

We'd made plans last week to get long-overdue drinks with our friend/co-worker Vivian last night. What initially started out as just that quickly evolved into a full-fledged adventure involving two more of our co-workers Akil and Sheryl.

As Vivian and I huddled together to get things lit, Jesse went to fetch Akil and Sheryl from the office.

The alley around Hon's Wonton Shop:
"This reminds me of finding my basketball team hiding somewhere smoking" - Akil, upon discovering me and Vivian in the alleyway.

Sheryl, as always, looked like she couldn't be happier to see us, which is as flattering as it is puzzling, as I'm not even sure I would ever be that happy to see my own self.

Park in the middle of Chinatown, filled with old Asian men:

Noodz is goodz, as Jesse and I often like to say. And boy did they hit the spot! We got the Tan Tan Noodles, which are spicy, saucy, and swimming in flavor (and oil, did I mention the oil?). We also split some spring rolls and onion pancakes to share.

Vivian and I discovered that we both share a love podcasts, in particular those from NPR and of the true crime variety. Hidden Brain, S-Town, Serial, and a string of missing persons investigations were easily topics of conversations between us.

After dinner, we parted ways with Sheryl, who I always hope has fun on these random outings. I can never tell, but her enthusiasm for hanging out with us every time makes me like to think so.

Topsy's
Rickhouse was closed for a private event, so we went next door to Topsy's, which isn't all that bad if you can look past the cheesy, loud party music. They have a variety of cocktails at a reaonable price (i.e., nothing over $12).

I got the Peach Passion which came with rum, peach, passionfruit, fresh lime juice, simple syrup, and fresh blueberries, and promptly spilled some all over my hand upon cheers.

Cheers! Note the sad spillage and ensuing gasp

7-11
We somehow got to talking about candy and chocolate at Topsy's, which if you're feeling the munchies at the moment would mean that's pretty much all that will consume your mind until you satisfy that hunger, and naturally decided to make a stop at Walgreens or 7-11.

Walgreens or 7-11? We could have stood at the corner all day had Akil not made an executive decision. 7-11 it was, to the delight of Jesse because he ended up getting a pizza (!).

I got a king-size Hershey's cookies & creme bar because it's what we were talking about at Topsy's, it's amazingly good, and easily shareable.

It was here that we started to discuss what we think of a candy inventor's job. Do they enjoy coming up with new ways to stuff

Some random dive bar on Market St. next to Daiso
Following Vivian's lead, we end up at this dive bar for another drink, and also following her lead were our drink orders. Jameson & ginger ale with a slice of lime? Count me and Akil in! Jesse as per usual, got his whiskey coke.

We got to talking about Spritz (because what are after work drinks if we don't talk about work?) and its current state of affairs. Spritz is about to enter into a new era/chapter/class (i.e., new hires and/or people leaving) so it was definitely a moment to recount the good, bad, and funny memories.

Isn't it funny how weird things happen to us all the time, and yet sometimes the weirdness of it all doesn't catch on until someone points it out? This night was filled with those moments of realization.
